Hope you all had a great weekend. For all of those in NYC, I hope you made it to the Mad Decent Block Party yesterday. If not, you better get to one of the up-coming shows.
Sorry for another mixtape- it can be a lot to digest- but it's an interesting one from The Hood Internet. T.H.I have definitely lost a little of the buzz they had 3 years ago when Girl Talk and pop-mashups were all the rage but they always have interesting concepts for their work. Trillwave 2 is the follow up to 2010's Trillwave, which combines rap with songs from the "chillwave" genre. Some tracks are better than others. "Slown John" which opens the mixtape is pretty dope.

The original Penguin Prison version of this is something I would probably never listen to but I like what Dirty Vegas does to it. There's a big build and great percussion. Penguin Prison remixed Dirty Vegas' Electric Love not so long ago...the favor has been returned.
The first track on here starts with "This mixtape is a soundtrack to your summer" and it is. DJ Jazzy Jeff of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince fame partners with Mick Boogie, a mixtape extraordinaire for 48 minutes filled with classic 90's hip hop mixed in with jazzy summertime tracks from the likes of Steve Winwood and Stevie Wonder. Great for listeners in urban areas riding trains. Big ups to UNDRCWRN for making this happen. Go here for one complete download of everything. If you're a Tribe Called Quest fan check out this recently released mixtape from Mick Boogie.
If you like Blackbird Blackbird, you're gonna like this. Chrome Sparks (I think he went by Professor Purple at one point?) is the stage name of Jeremy Malvin, a student at U. Michigan Ann Arbor. His song “All There Is” is pleasantly catchy, with dreamy mixed and chopped vocals from singer-songwriter Steffaloo. Check it out, and purchase his album My <3 for any price you want at his Bandcamp.
Last time we heard from Fabian, we received his amazing remix of Shinichi Osawa's "Zingaro". The track was an immediate SB fan favorite. Now he is back with an original track, featured on his debut album "Say Goodbye," which will be released on September 5th. "Last Flight" comes out August 22nd on Binary Records, backed with remixes by from French Horn Rebellion, NightWaves, Reset!, Justin Faust, Lancelot, Douze, and Robots For Rayguns. Keep an eye out for this one. I promise it will be worthy.
SB Affiliated Artist Hoodie Allen just released his sophomore album, Leap Year today, and its pretty refreshing to hear him back after a one year hiatus. CT native and KLHT grad RJF produced the mixtape, and I'd put him in the same realm with quality up and coming producers like Xaphoon Jones and Ryan Adams. Peep it below and grab the whole mixtape at his website.
Much to my delight, Skeetbeatz Affiliated Artist Viceroy just recently released a fantastic remix of Together's "So Much Love To Give." This track is somewhat reminiscent of his remix of "Shine On Low," which he put out when he used to be known as DJ Philistine. Have a listen!
Our favorite Phoenix based production duo TABS just sent us over a really nice email containing a remix of Calvin Harris' new single "Feel So Close," and boy am I feelin' it. This upbeat dance track makes it impossible not to want to hit the dance floor. Definitely a must listen, definitely a must download.
London duo Summer Camp are releasing their debut LP soon, and just released "Better Off Without You" in anticipation. This 80's reminiscent track has strong female vocals and a catchy chorus that I'm really feeling at the moment.
Long weekend, a little late on this one. Skeet Beatz Affiliated Artist Hoodie Allen is at it again, and this may be his best yet. I've got faith in Hoodie, and ya'll should too. He's got talent. Check out the video and DL the track below.
Amy Winehouse died this weekend so the SkeetBeatz Hangover Sunday: The Recovery Playlist 7/24 is dedicated to her. The last song on here is one of her best. The Beruit song is brand new off their new album "The Riptide". I saw Graffiti 6 live last week and they are incredibly talented- they might be the next Mumford and Sons to hit the states.
This is probably the first time John Denver has gotten the remix treatment, ever. I've had a beef with PL recently because I think a lot his tracks sound the same. Not this one. He turns Denver's ode to West Virginia into a glitchy, bass-driven electro jam. RIP Johhny D.
I really wish Posner wasn't on this track. I've been listening to this song on repeat to see if I can actually get past Pos' generic, female audience intended vocals. I eventually did. Rusko's newest beat on "Shut Up" is exactly the reason why I fell in love with dubstep in the first place. Head bobbing breaks, and deep, deep sub bass wobbles. Can't think of anything more perfect.
I have literally no idea who this is (except that he is from Oakland) and I have no idea how nobody has blogged about him yet. My girl @dizzymsLIZZIEE was down at Turtle Bay tonight and said she heard this awesome remix of Mika's classic tune "Big Girls", so I searched around on the interwebz and finally found it on Charlee's super sketchy website. Check it out, I'm positive you'll be a fan.
First off- Leona Lewis is an absolute fox. When you hear this song you immediately think that it's Avicii's "Penguin" or "Fade Into Darkness". Think again... it's Leona Lewis' "Collide" remixed by Afrojack, who has been all over the radio lately. Avicii claims it was stolen from him and that he had no hand in this nor gave it approval. The Music Ninja had a great post on this controversy. Either way- it's going to be a popular track.
This is the M83 teaser for the new album, "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming", that's expected to come out October 17th.
This is a brand new M83 track off of the new album that just came out. It's the same euphoric, synth-driven, pounding beat, M83 style we're used to except there's jazz-trumpet or saxophone thrown in there.
Darwin Deez is an indie band whose songs are remixed quite a bit. Darwin, the group's frontman, went to the prestigious institution of Wesleyan in Connecticut (J-LO the Kid's homestate). The Loving Hand remix is a new one while the Mr. Flash remix we posted almost a year ago.
If you don't know about Mad Decent signees Kito and Reija Lee, you are missing out. The duo hasn't even come close to putting out a mediocre track. As always, the music is written and produced by Kito, and the vocals are written and performed by Reija Lee. "Run For Cover" will be out on Mad Decent in August. Oh, and they're decent looking.
Xaphoon's production is, once again, amazing. Up and comer Skizzy Mars is a young rapper to keep an eye out for. I think the original remix of Grouplove's "Colours" is infinitely better, but that's just my opinion.
Max Tannone, the man who brought us the Jaydiohead and Mos Dub mashup albums, released Ghostfunk to the masses earlier this month and it just may be his crowning achievement. Ghostfunk pairs Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah with vintage African funk, high-life, and psychedelic rock music. I've been sitting on it for a week or two and it's absolutely incredible. Every track is dope but Funky Criminology, Astro Easy Love are my personal favorites. Check out Tannone's other mixtapes at his website. Ghostfunk by Max Tannone
I've never been a fan of mashups, purely because I feel that they don't add all that much to the world of music. Their hype is usually short-lived, and thousands of DJ's out there are mixing and mashing up tracks. But, some are far superior to others, and are worth sharing. I have no idea who Fullhaus or Bynar are, but they've got something here.
This is a track from Kendrick Lamar who likes to rap about drugs. To me, he sounds like he could've been a member of Bones Thugs N Harmony with the way he flows. The above picture is NOT Kendrick Lamar; it's a Caucasian child casually taking his A.D.H.D. medication.
Well, it is finally Friday again, and as always, we give to you some serious heat to tear up the d-floor. Two thirds of Team SB is going to be in NYC this weekend, so if you're tryina get down....
Gotye has to be one of the most unique/refreshing artists out there right now. I'll be honest, he weirds me out a little bit. However, I really really like his music. The first time I heard "Somebody That I Used To Know" I wasn't particularly impressed....but after I gave it a couple listens and watched the accompanying video it really grew on me. Let us know what you think!
Quite possibly my favorite Theophilus London song to date, "I Stand Alone" will appear on his upcoming album Timez Are Weird These Days, which is slated to be released next Tuesday (July 19th). Have a listen!
Our boys over at AWT turned me on to Fonzerelli, and I was instantly a fan. His latest is a "Top Gun Remix" of Digital Glitter's "Without You" and the name fits perfectly. With 80's style drum sequences, synths and female vocals, this song could be right out of the movie. Most likely when Val Kilmer is spiking Tom's face off in beach volley ball, but I don't know if it could replace "Danger Zone".
At one time in my life I was a hardcore Lil Wayne fan. That all changed when he became so mainstream that I thought he lost his edge. Regardless of how you feel about him, his mixtape legacy is unprecedented, and there are always a minimum of one or two gems on each tape. Weezy's audio apologetic "Sorry 4 The Wait" adds to this legacy, and is a great indicator of what is to come on The Carter IV, dropping August 29th. Stream it below and Download The Mixtape.
As I was surfing the web today I came across this mashup by DJ White Lotus (I have absolutely no idea who he is). Anyways, he does a great job meshing Kanye West and Nas' "We Major" with The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony." I'm not completely down with mashups such as this one because I feel like they really can't be that hard to make. That being said, I think this track has a great sound to it.....let us know what you think!
The young Madeon samples 39 songs to create this masterpiece on the Novation Lanchpad. When I first saw this yesterday afternoon it had under 5,000 views and now it's at about 100,000. Going viral baby wooop wooop. Madeon is a mystical French Wizard! We must hang him! This video is probz going to launch him into mainstream popularity in the states.
Although here at SB we have been looking for the perfect summer beats, we present to you today some "Winter Beats". This dreamy romantic indie pop track reminds me of stuff M83 or Slowdrive puts out, so if you're into them, I highly suggest you check out this track.
Coming off the release of Goldroom's first 3 original songs (Morgan's Bay, City Girls, and Nights In Nantes), last week, Goldroom released his official remix for Penguin Prison's new single "Fair Warning". "A bouncy melodic disco revamp of the song, the remix was recently featured on Aeroplane's June 2011 Mix". Unfortunately, there is no download available yet...
In addition, he put out an hour long mixtape that I think you will all enjoy.
Goldroom - Verano Mix 2011

Lets be honest, good rap music is pretty hard to come by these days. That's why I get especially excited when I hear a new rap track that I genuinely like. Wale teams up with Big Sean and B.o.B. to create a freshhhhhh track. I'm a big fan of the high pitched vocals that are incorporated into the beat.
If I had the choice, I would listen to BBC Radio 1 every night. Over the weekend, Pete Tong played Calvin Harris' newest jam "Feels So Close", that will inevitably be on heavy rotation in clubs across the world. Calvin has put out some serious dance floor heat this year with "Awooga" and "Bounce", and this one may top them all. Get it here first!
Melbourne native Cullen got the remix treatment from Sydney duo Calling In Sick last year, and I have no idea how we missed it. This disco laden, synth driven track has a bass line that is immediately edgy, and is made for the dance floor. Get it!
Supertrend is our savior: He died while creating the Skeetbeatz Hangover playlist for us (that's him in the picture) so I finished it up for him.
It's only fitting he passed with his headphones and a Skeetbeatz shirt on (purchase yours here! Available in small, medium, and large. Order now and get free shipping for a limited time only ).
One day he will rise again to create a friday bangers playlist.
Much to my delight, SUPERTREND has entrusted me with the responsibility of making the Friday Bangers post this week (what an honor!). Enjoy these jams and have a great weekend!
This is just a terrible remix. There's no melody. It's not catchy. Just overall not a feel good tune. If you don't listen to this you're not missing out......just kidding.
Tennis makes me happy. Love the sport, love the band. Ever since I heard "Marathon" I have been in love. The only way I can describe their sound is happy beach music. Riding in a jeep wrangler with no doors on your way to the beach, music.
I don't know how we let this one slip by. Long time SB follower Basil sent over this track the other day, and I was immediately into it. Kreayshawn is a hard ass white girl rapper, and has a flow similar to Lil B the Based God. Either you'll love or hate "Gucci Gucci", but either way, you should check it out. Watch out Niki Minaj.
I think Icona Pop's "Manners" may be the best pop song out right now that you wont hear anywhere on the radio. The team of Swedes have also put together a video that is reminiscent of a rave. Black lights, highlighter paint and half naked women. Not bad.
Last week, we posted CSS's newest "Hit Me Like A Rock". Today, Mad Decent prodigy Dillon Francis released his remix of the tune, and I must say it is right up my alley. A little darker, a little dancier, a little more summer club ready. Get it.
Here's a freshhhhh remix done by Breakbot of Chromeo's latest single "When the Night Falls." Chromeo is well renowned in the music bizz for their funky disco style; they had me hooked when "Bonafied Lovin'" was released several years ago. Most importantly, Chromeo are hands down one of the silliest artists in the music industry, which gives them extra points in my book.
This post is for pure entertainment. I haven't heard a song this absurd since Khia's "My Neck, My Back". My boy Austin came back from Texas the other day and told me about this track he heard at a club. He said "this song is to chick rap what the unibomber was to the postal service". Interpret that how you may, but this song is absolutely ridiculous.
"I aint even gonna lie, I fuck better when I'm drankin'"
Here's a brand new summer set that Midnight Surfer sent over to us this morning. It's an eclectic mix of brand new songs from the likes of Foster the People, Yelle, and Breakbot together with a few remixes of tracks from the 80's you've probably never heard of.
Tracklisting: Jeremy Glenn-New Life (Perseus 'Summer of 83' Remix) Das Pop-The Game (Villa Remix) Tiger & Woods-Curb My Heart (Radio edit) Raf-Self Control (Bottin Edit) Escort-Starlight (Greg Wilson Version) Gardens & Villa-Star Fire Power Foster the People-Houdini (RAC Remix) Locussolus-Tan Sedan (DrDunksBuickRegalDub) M&G-Boogie Tonight (Extended Mix) Beni-It's A Bubble (The Magician Remix) Holy Ghost!-I Know I Hear (Jacques Renault Remix) Yelle-Que Veux Tu (Logo Remix) Peter & The Magician-Twist Tyson-Out Of My Mind (Swiss Dance Remix) Breakbot-Fantasy (feat. Ruckazoid)
Everyone knows that Toro Y Moi is the chillest chill-wave artist out there so his remix of this Cut Copy track off of their latest album is obviously hella chill. Modular Records just released it today but they didn't provide a legal downloadable mp3 (what a bummer).
I recently found out that DOM could have played at our school's Springfest for three grand, and our school decided to pay Neon Trees a trillion dollars to get booed off stage. Good job Union. Anyways, it is hard to come out with a second single as perfect as "Living In America", but the group has done well for themselves. "Damn" is another great summertime tune.
