Skrillex- Make Things For Smile

I was just listening to a ton of Skrilly and it came to my attention that I haven't ever posted this jam. Its a couple months old, but its one of his best tracks.

*If someone can tell me how he makes his voice change to match the tune of the song, please comment below. I think everybody wants to know how the hell he does it.

EN, about the vocals, it's hard to say without being in the studio with someone as there's a lot of ways to do that. But it could be done very easily in Ableton using drum racks or samplers, or in any sampler for that matter. All he's done is chopped vocal takes he has into a ton of tiny pieces and pitched them up and down to various pitches. Then he's sequencing those bits using either MIDI or actually arranging them via audio. Lots of people do this, Russ Chimes does it on most of his remixes, but Skrillex definitely puts a lot of time into it because his vocal samples are perfect. Daft Punk's Face to Face is kind of my reference track for how to do this perfectly. If you listen to the track they sampled for parts of that song, ELO's Evil Woman, you'll get an idea of how they pitched very small parts of it up and down.

The other part of the equation for doing this well is having good vocals to work with. For minute chopping like this they don't have to be pristine vocal takes at all, but their original pitch and harmony is important. Its kind of something you just have to develop an ear for but you'll find certain vocal phrases or takes that just fit really well when chopped up and pitched, because the vocalist was doing something cool with their voice.
